The OIC Denounces the Forthcoming Election in the Nagorno Karabagh Region as a Breach of the International Law

The organization of the Islamic Conference has received with deep concern the decision, taken by the separatist movement which controls the Nagorno Karabakh region in Azerbaijan, to conduct general elections for the so called "Local Rule Authorities" in the region.

While categorically rejecting this measure as it contradicts all international norms and laws, the OIC reaffirms its firm position demanding an end for all forms of Armenian occupation of parts of the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan including the Nagorno Karabakh region. The OIC further calls for the promotion of a negotiable peaceful solution to the Armenian-Azeri dispute in the light of the resolutions adopted by the OIC, the UN and the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe, all of which demanded the Republic of Armenia to put an end to its occupation of the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan and to respect its sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity.
