OIC Press Release
|28 August 2001|
The Israeli Government has once again perpetrated a disgraceful and brutal crime against the Palestinian people, killing one of the symbols of patriotic struggle and one of the prominent political leaders of the Palestinian people. By committing this crime, the Israeli Government has buried alive all the regional and international efforts to put an end to the Israeli aggression and rescue the Peace Process. Indeed such an act forms an escalation which casts the region in further bloodshed and devastation.
The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference while strongly condemning these Israeli criminal acts, which form a crime against humanity, extends his condolences and sympathy to the Palestinian people and its national leadership for the loss of the martyred leader Abu Ali Mustapha, and reiterates that the Palestinian people who have already offered thousands of martyrs on the path of its struggle for the recovery of their national just and inalienable rights, shall, God willing, eventually and most certainly achieve victory over the forces of aggression and oppression, repel the Israeli occupation and achieve their legitimate aspiration to freedom and independence.
In the face of the continued and escalated Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference launches an appeal to the international community to shoulder its responsibility and take immediate and effective action to compel the Israeli Government to halt its aggressions and crimes against the Palestinian people, to provide the victimized Palestinian people with the necessary international protection, and to force Israel to abide by the resolutions of international legitimacy on Palestine, Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and the Arab-Israeli conflict, so that a just and lasting peace and stability may be established in this important region of the world.
