OIC Secretary General Concludes Six-Nation African Tour

To highlight the ongoing solid relations which link the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) with its Member States, and pursue consultations with their officials, the OIC Secretary General Dr. Abdelouahed BELKEZIZ conducted a tour of six African States, from 31 May to 7 June 2001.

The Secretary General visited the Republic of Senegal, Republic of the Gambia, Republic of Guinea, Burkina Faso, Republic of Mali and the Republic of Niger where he held meetings with heads of State of these countries. He also held, in the capital cities of the six States, a series of meetings with their respective Foreign Ministers, focusing on the means to promote joint Islamic action, issues of development in Africa and the extent of OIC support and assistance for these States.

In his African tour, the Secretary General, accompanied by the Chairman of the Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF), has become acquainted with the phases achieved in implementing the programmes assisted by the ISF in favour of those States. During the tour, new assistance was delivered which will make it possible to pursue the implementation of the afore-mentioned programmes in congenial circumstances.
