Mr. Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations, received in his Office at the UN Headquarters in New York today Monday 20 Jumada II 1421H (18 September 2000) Dr. Azeddine Laraki, Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
The two Secretaries General exchanged views during the meeting, on the ongoing cooperation between the two Organizations and ways and means to enhance it. They also touched upon the subject of the Ninth Islamic Summit Conference due to be held in November next, in Doha, State of Qatar. The UN Secretary General announced in this respect that he will personally attend this Summit’s deliberations.
The meeting also addressed the results of the meeting of Al-Quds Committee, held in Agadir, Kingdom of Morocco, late in August 2000.
Tomorrow, Tuesday 19 September 2000, the Secretary General will be attending the meeting of the OIC Committee on Dialogue among Civilizations being held at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Dr. Azeddine Laraki will be thus winding up his present stay in New York, after having participated in the Millennium Summit and presided over the Annual Coordination Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of OIC Member States, as well as the Committee and Group meetings preparatory to it, in addition to the General Debate of the UN General Assembly.
