The Meeting of Senior Officials in preparation for the Twenty-seventh Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers, organized by the General Secretariat of the Organization of the Islamic Conference once every year sufficiently in advance of each Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers, started this morning, Saturday 23 Safar 1421H (27 May 2000).
The Meeting was inaugurated by H.E. the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Dr. Azeddine Laraki, with his speech delivered on his behalf by Ambassador Ibrahim Bakr, Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs. The Secretary General expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to His Majesty, the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques, Fahd Ibn Abdul Aziz, Sovereign of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for the strong championship, support and assistance extended by the King, long may he live, his loyal Crown Prince and the Saudi Government to the General Secretariat, the Subsidiary Organs and Institutions of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
The Secretary General expounded that this preparatory meeting of the Twenty-seventh Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers coincides with momentous events at both the international and Islamic levels, particularly the anniversary of the defeat of Israeli Occupation in Lebanon and the withdrawal of Israel after being humiliated and pushed back from the Lebanese territories, with the collapse of its confederate militias following two decades of resistance and struggle. He expressed the hope that this defeat of the Israeli Occupation in Lebanon is a prelude to its defeat, Insha Allah, in the rest of the Arab Occupied territories still under occupation, including Al-Quds Al-Sharif, the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, the Lebanese Shaba farms, and the Syrian Golan.
The Secretary General affirmed: “On this occasion, we partake of the rejoicing of the President, Government, people and resistance of Lebanon at liberating their land and congratulate them for this victory. We hope that we will soon celebrate the liberation of all the occupied Arab Palestinian territories and the restoration of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people on the land of their independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital”.
In this context, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference reaffirmed that the cause of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif is the prime cause of Muslims and that it will continue to engage the work of the Organization as the highest priority, which will continue its unlimited support of the resistance of our Palestinian brethren, until they secure their full, national and legitimate rights, and establish their state on their land of Palestine, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, and on the basis of the 1993 Declaration of Principles and Subsequent Agreements as well as on the basis of the “Land for Peace” formula.
