Dr. Abdullah Bin Saleh Al-Obaid, the Secretary General of the Muslim World League has communicated a letter to Dr. Azeddine Laraki, OIC Secretary General on the tragic events suffered by the Muslim People of Chechnya and the genocide, which the Russian regime is perpetrating in Chechnya. In his letter, the Secretary General of the Muslim World League conveyed the League’s appreciation of the continuous efforts exerted by the OIC in seeking a peaceful solution to the issue of Chechnya and an end to the bloodshed and genocide of the Muslim people of Chechnya.

The Secretary General of the Muslim World League proposed a review of the issue of Chechnya as well as the aftermath of the Russian military campaign against the Muslim people resulting in the human tragedy which has left in its wake hundreds of dead unarmed civilians and thousands of displaced Chechen people away from their country. The League recommended that an Islamic Committee be created to follow up events and monitor their repercussions on peace and security in the Caucasus and to investigate the charitable relief needs of Chechen refugees in Ingushetia so as to rescue them from their plight in keeping with the tradition of Islamic solidarity, which is a major objective of the OIC.

Dr. Al-Obaid expressed the League’s readiness to participate in the plans and programmes to be set up by the OIC in order to come to the rescue of the Chechen people and provide them with financial and material assistance.
