OIC Press Release
| 20 March 2003 |
Responding to a question from the International Islamic News Agency regarding the latest developments at the Iraqi arena, Dr. Abdelouahed Belkeziz, Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference expressed deep regret for these developments. He demanded an immediate end to all hostilities against Iraq and the return to the search for a peaceful solution within the framework of the UN Security Council and allowing international inspectors to complete the task entrusted to them by the latter especially under its latest resolution no. 1441.
The Secretary General added that war was not the ideal means for resolving disputes, and that it will only shed innocent blood, entail destruction and devastation, aggravate the ordeal and suffering of the Iraqi people, exacerbate instability in the Middle East region and deepen the phenomenon of extremism, intolerance and international terrorism.
The OIC Secretary General invited the members of the Security Council to convene an urgent meeting to consider the situation and to take the necessary measures within the framework of the obligations of the Council in preserving international peace and security.
