OIC Press Release
| 24 September 2002 |
The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has been following with deep concern the escalating Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people. This aggression has reached epic proportions in its destruction and siege of the headquarters of President Arafat. The daily Israeli crimes against the Palestinian citizens continue unabated in flagrant violation of all International covenants and conventions and of international humanitarian law, particularly the Fourth Geneva Convention on the Protection of Civilians in Times of War.
As the General Secretariat strongly condemns this Israeli aggression, it calls on the international community to intervene promptly and decisively to put an end to the Israeli aggression, raise the siege imposed on the Palestinian leadership and people, bring Israel to withdraw its forces from the Palestinian territories, and compel it to respect international laws and conventions and respond to the international efforts deployed to establish a just and comprehensive peace in the region. The General Secretariat reaffirms the support of the Organization of the Islamic Conference for the Palestinian people and their legitimate leadership in their struggle for freedom, independence, and the restoration of their legitimate and inalienable rights.
