The world has been watching, live, since the early hours of this morning, the shelling by forces of the Israeli occupation, of a residential district of the city of Gaza, killing and injuring scores of civilian martyrs, mostly women and children.

Such an attack is taking place at a time when the regional and international efforts being deployed are about to lead to a halt of violence, thereby clearing the air for a possible resumption of the peace process.

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which always endeavored to uphold and foster all efforts aimed at establishing just peace and security, condemns, in the strongest terms, this blatant aggression. At the same time, it reiterates the importance and necessity of an immediate move, on the part of the international community, to secure the necessary international protection of the Palestinian people and back the international efforts underway for peace and security to prevail in the area.
