Ambassador Babacar BA and UNOG General Director

 

HE BABACAR BA

- is a Senior Career diplomat from Senegal
- Born in 1954, he is married and has four children
- He is Bachelor of Art (BA) from University of Dakar, Senegal, 1979
- He holds a Master of Art (MA) in Arabic, English language, Islamic civilisation from the same University , 1980, and a degree from national School of Administration (ENAM-Diplomatic Section), 1982
- He joined the Senegalese Foreign Ministry in July 1982 and occupied several positions in the Ministry before being posted as Counsellor in Banjul (Freetown and Monrovia 1986-1992) then Addis Ababa (OAU-ECA), Nairobi (PNUE-UN HABITAT) with diplomatic coverage of many East African countries (Ethopia-Djibouti-Kenya-Tanzania-Ouganda-Erythrea etc), 1994-2000 - He participate to many Ministerial and Head of States Conferences of OAU, OIC, ECOWAS and different sessions of UN General Assembly in New York
- Before joining Geneva as OIC Permanent Observer, Ambassador BA was Director of Asia-Africa Department and Director of Cabinet of the Foreign Minister of Senegal 2000-2001, 2001-2003 respectively

Activities

The Permanent Observer Missions of the Organization of the Islamic Conference to the U.N. in Geneva (also accredited to Vienna) is entrusted with:

- Following all matters of interest to the Islamic Conference at the United nations and reporting to the headquarters in Jeddah;

- Supporting activities and coordination of the informal group of the OIC Member States at the U.N.;

- Maintaining close contacts with the UN Secretariat and other International Organisation in Geneva and Vienna;

- Creating, maintaining and strengthening working relations with the UN specialized bodies and institutions as well as others International organisations in Geneva and Vienna;

- Creating, maintaining and strengthening contacts with Member States accredited to the UN in Geneva, Vienna and Paris (UNESCO).
